Manage
tantrum in public
Keep your toddler away from other kids who are nearby him just to keep them save. Be very firm about what is acceptable and what is not. Be clear that it is not okay to behave like this. You could say, "I see that you're mad, but I can't let you bother anyone. Give him ideas to relax him and keep away the frustrating feelings by hopping, jumping or meowing like a cat."
It's especially tempting when your child
has a wave of anger in public to cave in as a way of ending the episode. But,
don't give in to quiet your child. No matter how long it goes on. Sometimes you
give unreasonable demands or try to bribe or negotiate with your screaming
child. But it’s not right. Admitting teaches your child that pitching is the
way to get what she wants and sets the stage for future behavior problems.
